Which the people of Padua call The Saint, is the main monument in Padua and one of the world’s greatest masterpieces of art. Recognised by the Holy See as an international shrine, it is also one of the most famous and popular places of worship in Christendom. The architect is unknown; he was probably a Franciscan of genius and vast figurative culture. The temple was begun in 1232 in honour of St. Anthony of Padua and was completed in its main part in the late 1200s.
